Consultant – GCC Regional Social Accounting Matrix Development

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks a qualified economist to develop a harmonised GCC regional inter‑linked Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) and a comprehensive database supporting a regional trade simulator for the 2024‑2035 period. The assignment is remote and lasts three months.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the updated national SAMs for the six GCC countries and propose a harmonised structure for a regional inter‑linked SAM.
• Construct the macro‑level and micro‑level regional SAM, aligning it closely with Saudi Arabia’s national SAM.
• Collect additional data required for the SAM and apply estimation and balancing techniques such as RAS and Maximum Entropy.
• Develop a complete database that will be used to calibrate the regional trade simulator.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in building and balancing Social Accounting Matrices.
• Familiarity with trade modelling and simulation tools.
• Ability to work independently on a remote, short‑term contract.
