Economic Research Assistant – Financing for Development (3-month contract)

About the role

The Economic Research Assistant will support the final evaluation of Oman’s Tenth Five‑Year Development Plan, focusing on financing for development. Working within the UN‑House ESCWA in Beirut, the consultant will provide data collection, econometric analysis, and policy‑relevant recommendations for the upcoming Eleventh Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Gather, compile and update SDG‑related economic indicators and financing data for Oman’s national priorities.
• Extract, clean and analyse technical data from national databases, libraries and statistical sources.
• Assess financing flows, fiscal space, revenue and expenditure performance, and investment needs.
• Provide econometric assistance, including quantitative modelling and causal inference for policy recommendations.
• Maintain and update computerized databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
• Prepare reports, presentations, tables, charts and diagrams for senior officers.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Economics, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in research, data extraction or statistical analysis.
• At least one year of experience with econometric models.
• Fluency in English and Arabic (speaking, reading, writing and understanding).

Required skills

• Proficiency with statistical software (e.g., Stata, EViews, R).
• Strong knowledge of econometric modelling and time‑series analysis (VAR, SVAR).
• Experience with panel‑data techniques (Fixed Effects, Dynamic Panel Threshold, GMM).
• Data compilation, cleaning and database management.
