Economic Research Assistant – ESCWA Consultant (2.5 months)

About the role

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) seeks a short‑term consultant to evaluate a national development plan. The contractor will collect and analyse macro‑economic, sectoral and socio‑economic data, apply econometric techniques, and produce policy‑relevant findings.

Key responsibilities

• Review plan documents and identify relevant indicators and evaluation questions.
• Collect, clean, and harmonise macro‑economic and socio‑economic datasets from national and international sources.
• Develop databases and documentation suitable for quantitative analysis.
• Design an evaluation framework and apply time‑series and panel‑data econometric methods.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and policy recommendations for ESCWA and member states.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Development Economics, Data Science or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in macro‑economic analysis, applied economics, or policy evaluation.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (speaking, reading, writing, understanding).
