Diabetes Educator

About the role

We are seeking a Diabetes Educator to deliver comprehensive, integrated diabetes care within the American University of Beirut Medical Center. The role combines clinical management with patient self‑management education, supporting patients, families and caregivers to achieve optimal disease control and quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessments of diabetic patients, including clinical status, learning needs, health literacy and barriers to learning.
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized, age‑appropriate care plans in collaboration with physicians, patients and multidisciplinary team members.
• Provide evidence‑based self‑management education covering blood glucose monitoring, medication use, insulin administration, nutrition, physical activity, hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia management, sick‑day rules and use of diabetes technologies.
• Initiate and support insulin pump therapy and other technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring and automated insulin delivery systems.
• Conduct individual and group education sessions and telenursing follow‑up calls, documenting all interventions according to policy.
• Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff, contribute to student training, and participate in diabetes‑related research activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Dietetics, Nutrition, Pharmacy or a related health field.
• 3–5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse or equivalent health professional, preferably within AUBMC or a similar setting.
• Fluency in Arabic and English (IELTS ≥ 5.0).
• Preferred certification as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and membership in the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge and practical experience with insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and automated insulin delivery devices.
• Ability to deliver patient education and document care accurately.
